OVERVIEW – who’s in charge of what! Kitty Jones (from Calgary, Alberta) is the Camp Coordinator. Participants should communicate with Kitty about any problems that come up before and during camp. Kitty will coordinate the coaches and other adult helpers, as well as the training sessions.
Marsha Fehr (from Calgary, Alberta), the registrar, will be greeting everyone upon arrival at Whistler Athletes’ Centre’s Lodge from 4:00pm onwards on August 5.
Anne Teutsch (from Ottawa, Ontario) will lead the volunteer kitchen crew.
ACCOMMODATION
Everyone is staying at the Whistler Athletes’ Centre (the former Olympic Village) which is 8 km south of the town of Whistler. The Whistler Athletes’ Centre’s website includes info and a video about their Lodge, where we will be staying. http://www.whistlerathletescentre.com/stay-with-us
We will be in double rooms, each room with 2 single beds. You will be assigned to your room ahead of time. We’ll tell you which room you’ll be in and who your room-mate will be when you arrive at the Whistler Athletes’ Centre Lodge after 4:00pm on Tuesday afternoon.
CAMP STARTS AT COC RELAY ARENA AFTER LUNCH on Tuesday August 5
On Tuesday August 5, the COC Relay event takes place in the morning on the “Lost Lake” map. We anticipate most camp participants and coaches will participate in this event. However, the relay is not officially part of this camp. If you are running in the relay, you must register and pay for it separately.
Camp officially starts after the COC Relay awards, which are scheduled for 12 noon at the Relay Arena (at Lost Lake, which is about 1 km north of the Base of Blackcomb Mountain). There will be a short Welcome & Introductions meeting for all participants, coaches and volunteers at approximately 1:00 – 1:30pm at the COC Relay Arena in the vicinity of the Registration Info tent. Look for the “Junior” banner. The exact time will be announced at the relay awards.
Swimming: If the weather is warm, you can swim at the Lost Lake beach before and/or after the COC Relay event. Apparently the water temperature is “cool”. Bring your swimsuit and towel.
Coaches: there will be a short meeting immediately after the relay awards finish, to share instructions about the first training session. This will be before the Welcome & Introductions meeting for everyone. Exact time will be announced at the awards.
Coaches and participants will do the first training session on the Relay map at approximately 2:00 – 4:00pm. At about 4:00pm, they will all car pool to the Whistler Athletes’ Centre and check in to their rooms in the Lodge.
Volunteers who are not coaches will attend the Welcome and Introductions at approximately 1:00 – 1:30pm, and will then meet with Anne Teutsch, the Kitchen Leader, until about 2:00pm. She will explain her plans and arrange who will do what that afternoon. You cannot check in to the Lodge until 4:00pm at the earliest. However, you may drop off your luggage there any time after 2:00pm if you wish.
Parents who are not participating in the camp may drop off their kids’ luggage at the Whistler Athletes’ Centre Lodge any time after 2:00pm.
TUESDAY AFTERNOON SCHEDULE
12 noon (approximately): COC Relay awards at Lost Lake beach. Everyone should bring their own picnic lunch.

1:00 – 1:30pm: Welcome/Introductions at COC Relay Arena
Participants and their parents should be at the COC Relay Arena from 12 noon until about 1:30pm. The exact time for the camp welcome and introductions will be announced at the Relay awards.

2:00 – 4:00pm: Coaches will lead the training session; meanwhile parents can drop their kids’ luggage at Athletes’ Centre any time after 2:00 pm.
Parents who are not participating in the camp themselves can drop their kids’ luggage at the Lodge at the Whistler Athlete’s Centre any time between 2:00 – 4:00 pm, after saying goodbye to their kids at the COC Relay Arena. See below for directions to the Athletes’ Centre.
