World Ranking IDs
The COC Long, COC Middle, and WCOC Long are sanctioned by the IOF as World Ranking Events. In these three races, all men on the M21 course and all women on the W21 course (regardless of their own category) will earn World Ranking points.
This year the IOF has introduced new World Ranking IDs for all athletes taking part in World Ranking Events. The athletes need to give their World Ranking IDs when registering for the event if they are registering for the M21 course (men) or the W21 course (women). The IDs can be found here: http://iofranking.osport.ee/iofranking/Athletes
If this applies to you and you do not have a WR ID yet, please apply for one as soon as possible by sending this form: IOF Athlete ID request template to the address: [email protected]
Check your own data
The new IOF World Ranking system only uses the Latin alphabet from a to z. It is very important for all runners to check that the information about them is correct. Please check the following: spelling of your first and last name, birth year, and nationality. If you find any mistakes, please report them to [email protected]. When reporting, please let us know your complete birth date (day, month, year).
Critical registration dates
- Early-bird rates– Until 23:59 May 4
- Regular rates – May 5 until
23:59 July 6
- Late rates– July 7 onwards
- Online registration closes 23:59 July 16
Age brackets
- All ages are as of 31 December,
2014
- Adults are 21+, Juniors are 20
or under
Making changes
It’s not a trivial matter to change your entries once they’ve been accepted. If you do need to make a change, email the registrar and we’ll sort out the best way to handle your problem. Sorry, only minor changes after entries close on July 16 and they will be accepted at the discretion of the organizers / on the availability of maps, start slots etc., and may incur a nominal fee.
Refunds
Refunds will be made by cheque (unfortunately we’ve no way of refunding your credit card). This should be no problem for North American entries but for overseas entries there may be complications and an additional fee may be charged to cover costs of international money orders or other instruments
Eligibility
Everybody is welcome to participate in any class. However medal winners (gold, silver and bronze) of the Canadian Orienteering Championships shall be only those who are full members of the provincial/territorial associations and who are:
a) Canadian citizens or
b) Permanent residents as defined by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
All medal winners must be prepared to submit proof of eligibility
Prizes will be given to the top three finishers regardless of eligibility for the medals
Championship classes
Championship classes are age-based and will use the standard courses as approved by Orienteering Canada.
Open classes
Open classes are "age-less" and are open to everyone, regardless of age or gender. The classes are categorized in terms of race format, technical difficulty and length.
- Beginner (Beg): Point-to-point. TD1 or TD2. Short.
- Intermediate (Int): Point-to-point. TD3. Medium.
- Advanced (Adv): Point-to-point. TD4 or TD5. Medium.
- Expert (Exp): Point-to-point. TD5. Long.
- Sport (Sport): Score-O. TD2, TD3 or TD4. Long.
Format:
- Point-to-point: All controls must be visited in the order shown on the map. Fastest time wins.
- Score-O: Controls can be visited in any order. Controls are worth points that add up to a total score depending on how many controls are visited. There is a time limit and point penalties for finishing late. The winner is the runner with the most points. Time limits: Sprint: 15 min; Middle: 45 min.; Long: 75 min.
Technical Difficulty:
- TD1: Very easy. All controls on man-made "handrails", such as paths, fences, powerlines.
- TD2: Easy. All controls on natural or man-made handrails, including streams, edge of clearings, etc
- TD3: Controls on large features close to handrails.
- TD4: Controls on large features in the forest.
- TD5: Controls on small features in the forest, rugged terrain.
Length:
- Short: Around 2 to 3 km for Middle and Long. 1 to 2 km for Sprint.
- Medium: Around 3 to 5 km for Middle and Long. 1.5 to 2.5 km for Sprint.
- Long: Around 6 to 9 km for Middle and Long. 2 to 4 km for Sprint.
Teams
- Teams of two, three or four are welcome and can compete in the Sport or Beginner categories.
- Team members each pay the fee for their age.
- Teams require just one SICard.
- All team members must belong to a recognized provincial association.
- The “team leader” should register online; members of the team register and pay their fees on the day.
Whistler-Blackcomb gondola
Whistler Blackcomb lift tickets will be needed for the Long event and for the HPP fundraiser. The lift ticket is included in the Long entry fee. The lift ticket must be purchased in addition to the race entry fee for the HPP Fundraiser, this allows a member of your party to take the lift but not take part in the fundraiser. (note: we have been offered a very generous discount on the lift ticket from regular prices, which are close to $50/day).
Sass Peepre Junior Training Camp
To register for the Sass Peepre Junior Training Camp go to the Junior Training Camp page.
Event souvenir shirts
High quality, hi-tech, fully sublimated t-shirts from brand-name company. The design is to be finalized but here's a peek at the proto-type
Fees vary, depending on whether you are entering a Championship or Open class, on your age and how soon you register
You may either purchase a Whistler package (which includes all 5 races, SI card rental, BBQ and two gondola tickets) or select individual events. The package price provides a small discount.
Note that if you choose an “Open class package” then you may only sign up for the Open Classes (Beg, Int, Adv, Exp or Sport), and cannot enter any of the Championship categories.
